Magick and Ritual Practice…
I would like to advise caution when using the invocations from this site
– invoking gods is not something to be taken lightly!
If you are unfamiliar with ritual work – before you do anything at all,
please familiarise yourself with the circle
casting pathworking.
If you have an idea to try your hand at invocation to ‘see what happens’
or to ‘see if you can’, then my advice to you is simple and direct – DON’T!
However, if you have love, honour and respect for
the gods and wish to commune with them in a ritual setting, then I recommend
doing some research (read a lot!) and start small with your ritual work before
building up to more complex practices.
Remember, there is no hurry with the Great Work (magick). Magick forms a part of some pagan religions – and its aim is not to get everything you want the easy way. The magickal path
requires discipline, hard work and perseverance – it is not for the
faint-hearted or lazy. Do you really
have the good sense and dedication required for such an undertaking?
The point of practicing magick is ultimately to achieve the Great Work –
the reconciliation of opposites and the realisation of the true Self. One of the main pitfalls on the path is the
desire for ‘proficiency’ or ‘power’ - which is usually ego driven – and there’s
nothing like an over inflated ego to put a crimp on your magickal progress and
earn you a karmic kick in the teeth! As The Charge
says, ‘Let there be beauty and strength, power and
compassion, honour and humility
within you’.
Also, remember that the magickal path is only one of many that aims to achieve
this realisation of the Self – in other religions it might be called ‘Christ
Consciousness’, ‘Union with the Godhead’, ‘Individuation’ or ‘Communication
with the Higher Guardian Angel’. So when
you research and read, look into other religions and practices too – this will
ensure you gain more of an understanding of what you are doing and why. Investigating depth or Jungian psychology is
also invaluable. Achieving a clear idea of your spiritual destination is far
more successful magickally than performing any kind of spell or ritual!
I work within the Northern Tradition – a religion often called Heathenry
or Asatru. To find out more about
