A   LITTLE   AUTOBIOGRAPHY

My name is Anna and I was born in the UK on the 14th September 1973, which makes me a Virgo (Aries moon and Leo rising and my Rune sign is Kenaz!).  I go by the nickname, Gale or MG as you can see from this site.

I have lived in the UK all my life and have been a practicing Witch for 13 years.  First of all working in a coven where I was initiated into Gardnerian Witchcraft. Later, I worked as part of a more shamanic group before leaving (of my own will) to practice alone.

I now work mostly alone but also occasionally with friends - mostly along the lines of seidr/shamanism but also some ritual work.
I spend a good deal of time studying the Runes and Norse myths.  In addition to my regular job, I do rune readings for people and craft runic talismans.  I consider myself to be a devoted Priestess of Odin and work with Odin in my spiritual and magickal pursuits.  I also work with the god, Heimdall and the Goddesses, Hella and Freyja.. I have included some ritual material on this site – invocations, rune magick, and circle/hof casting.  Your opinions and experiences are welcome – just email me or post your ideas and opinions in my guestbook or forum.

I have a Yahoo! group set up for those interested in the Northern Tradition, Shamanism, Seidr, Galdr, Witchcraft and Magick.  I also host a non-yahoo forum dedicated to discussion of all aspects of Heathenry and Paganism which can be easily accessed through this site.  To find out more about Asatru (the religion of the Norsemen) and Heathenry, follow this link…

My hobbies include drawing, painting, working with wood, making jewellery.  I also do a great deal of writing.  Much of the writing I do is ritual material.  Being a child of Odin, a lot of the ritual material I write is usually in verse!  I’ve included a declamation I’ve written on this site – but unusually, it’s not in verse!  I’m currently learning some very basic leatherwork too – something to keep me occupied when my carpentry blisters are too painful!  I occasionally knit and crochet too – I’m pretty ‘crafty’.

Having said all of that though, my main hobby is probably reading.  I read mostly religious, mythological and magickal texts.  Not just Norse material - also a bit about Kaos, Voodoo,  Santeria,  Reiki, Celtic Magick/Mythology, Thelema, Witchcraft, Seidr, Ceremonial Magick, Christian Theology (mostly CS Lewis of 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' fame) and a bit about Alchemy.  I have also read a little about psychology and enjoy fantasy novels (I recommend J.V. Jones – one of the few female fantasy authors and one of the best!).  I read a little poetry but I don't know an awful lot about it. I enjoy the poems of Christina Rossetti and the ancient Eddic poems of the Northern tradition.  I also love Pre-Raphaelite art.

I'm REALLY into crystals and stones and have quite a collection.  My particular favourite is black tourmaline – maybe not the prettiest stone around – but definitely one of the most protective and grounding.  One of my prized possessions is a large amethyst geode/cathedral that I bought in Avebury with the inheritance money my father paid me early (i.e. while he's still alive!).   You can find a picture of my ‘cathedral’ (and other bits and pieces) here…  My other most prized possessions are my four volumes of 'Teutonic Mythology' by Jakob Grimm - a bit of a collector's item!

Another of my passions is music.  It runs in the family - my sister plays the violin and my father's a drummer in a folk band.  I’m currently learning to play the cimbala – a Russian harp/dulcimer-like instrument.  I listen to a lot of different types of music - here a just a few of them:  Marilyn Manson, Avril Lavigne, Radiohead, Nick Cave, Steeleye Span,  Tangerine Dream, Sinead Lohan, Hoven Droven, Varttina, Vasen, Grieg, Saint Saens, The Albion Band, Violent Femmes, New Model Army, The Cure, Jeff Buckley, Home Service, Bread, Blowzabella, Faith No More, Jethro Tull, Coldplay, Aimee Mann, Cat Stevens, Beethoven, Muse and Phillip Glass.  I’m sure I’ve missed a lot!

I also love animals - particularly greyhounds and other dogs, cats and bears.   I love walking in the countryside but I’m not keen on the sun – I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Autumn!

For the future...my plans include setting up a 'postal coven' to help others on the path.  I also plan to learn Icelandic to improve my pronunciation and also so that maybe one day I'll be able to read the poems and sagas in their original form.  This is a long term project, however – I have quite a bit on at the moment!

The latest news is that I’ve just received I’ve just completed my Intra-Focal Healing and Meditation Diploma courses with Stonebridge.  Over the past year I’ve also received diplomas in Crystal Healing, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Hand Reflexology and Colour Therapy.  Over the next 12 months I plan to continue my studies with Stonebridge and will be studying for diplomas in Integrated Therapeutic Counseling and Holistic Health Therapy.  In addition to this, I’m also studying Indian Head Massage!  It may sound like I’m doing rather a lot – but it’s all working towards the holistic healing practice and courses I will be setting up over the next few years.

I am also a Reiki Master/Teacher and have recently started running courses to teach Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki through Ebay.  Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ‘Universal Life Energy’ and Reiki practice involves channeling this Universal Energy (also called Prana and Odic energy, and in the Northern Tradition, Ond) in through the crown of the head and out of the hands for healing. If you’re interested in learning more, follow this link…

I’ve also been spending a fair amount of time sorting out my website (I reckon it’ll be quicker if I get a book on it – but won’t be so much fun!).  I would appreciate any feedback regarding the site and any ways you think it might be improved – either email me with your ideas and views, or post a message to the guestbook and I’ll see what I can do!  I  would also appreciate it if you would email me to report any dead links you may come across.

I’ve also set up a Heathen forum for this site so that regular visitors can contact each other.  For more details about this site, follow this link…

Thanks for taking the time to have a look around – and I hope you’ll be back again soon!
